Frequently Asked Questions

The application is holistic. While we look for a GPA of 3.25 or higher on recent college-level coursework (or 3.5 for high school applicants), we also review your project reflection, supporting documentation, and optional letters of recommendation. If you're motivated, challenged yourself academically, and can make a compelling case for your potential, apply — the benchmarks are starting points, not ceilings.

No. There are no application fees and no membership fees. Honors courses cost the same as standard SF courses.

Students who submit completed applications by the deadline can expect a decision within three weeks of the application deadline date.

Yes. Many Honors students work and attend part-time. The program is flexible enough to accommodate a range of schedules — Honors Points can be earned through activities that fit your schedule. Talk to a Navigator or the Honors Program Director if you have concerns about fit.

You must earn at least 30 Honors Points each fall and spring semester and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher to remain in good standing. Points are earned through Honors courses, Honors Contracts, Independent Study Projects, and approved engagement activities — all documented in the Honors Canvas group. Email honors@sfcollege.edu if you're unsure whether a specific activity qualifies.

All three designations require a 3.5 cumulative GPA, Canvas documentation, and good standing at graduation. Honors requires 150 total Honors Points. High Honors requires 195 points. Highest Honors requires 240 points — and qualifies you for the UF Honors Transfer Pathway. See the Graduation page for a full side-by-side comparison.

If your cumulative GPA falls below 3.5, or if you do not earn the required 30 Honors Points in a given semester, you may be placed on probationary status. A 3.5 GPA is required to graduate at any Honors level. After being notified, you will work with an SF staff member to build a plan to return to good standing. Students on probation cannot graduate with Honors or receive Honors Program scholarships until they return to full status. Contact the Honors office as soon as possible — we'd rather help you get back on track.
