Liberal Arts and Sciences

Overview

The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences forms the foundation of all degree programs at Santa Fe College — the Associates in Arts, Associates in Sciences and Baccalaurate programs — and houses the college's fine arts and entertainment technology programs. The school provides the curricula that equip students with general education skills to succeed in the workforce or further studies, as well as providing prerequisite coursework required for transfer to upper-division university programs.

Departments

ENGLISH

Department of English

Composition, literature and communication courses anchoring the general education core. Developmental reading and writing to prepare students for college level work.

ARTS

Department of Fine Arts

Art history, studio art, music, theatre and design coursework. Programs in graphic design, digital media and entertainment technology.

HCL

Department of Humanities, Communications and Languages

Humanities, world languages, philosophy, religion and public speaking. English for academic purposes.

MATH

Department of Mathematics

Algebra through calculus. Developmental mathematics to prepare students for college level work. Mathematical thinking in context and Statistics for non-STEM majors.

NATSCI

Department of Natural Sciences

Biology, physics, chemistry, physical and environmental science with lab courses.

SBS

Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences

Psychology, anthropology, history, geography and political science.
