Mind Body Life
It's All Connected
Mind Body Life was a multi-faceted wellness campaign created specifically to address the mental health and wellness needs of college students. Developed at Santa Fe College with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Florida Department of Health, the initiative was designed to reduce barriers to mental health care, increase awareness, and promote a broader understanding of the connection between the mind, body, and life.
The 2024 Mind Body Life initiative focused on four areas: increasing mental health awareness, increasing access to mental health care, increasing the college’s capacity to support mental wellness, and increasing mental health wellness. The project brought together more than 220 Santa Fe College employees, students, and community members and resulted in a toolkit of resources that could be adapted by colleges throughout the Florida College System.
The campaign included education and outreach strategies such as a multimedia mental health awareness campaign, the Mental Health Peer Ambassador Program, and Wellness Wednesdays, along with strategies for expanding access to care, providing professional learning opportunities, and developing wellness programming.
From Campaign to Continued Work
Although the original Mind Body Life campaign was launched in 2024, its impact continues through programs and initiatives that remain part of the Counseling & Wellness Center's work today. Mental Health Peer Ambassadors and Wellness Wednesdays are examples of programs that grew from the Mind Body Life initiative, while training, outreach, wellness programming, and partnerships continue to support the campaign's broader goals.
Mind Body Life helped establish a foundation for making mental health and wellness an ongoing part of the Santa Fe College experience, not simply a response when students are struggling.

You're Not Alone
Research shows that 1 in 6 adults in the U.S. have been diagnosed with a mental health condition. But regardless of the condition, a consistent thread is loneliness. Feelings of isolation can have the same impact on mortality as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
Studies show that students have higher loneliness scores than retirees. College can be a very isolating experience. Even with all the events and stadium noise and people everywhere, students often feel alone.
