Green Team

Overview

The SF Teaching Zoo supports a Green Team whose members are comprised of student zookeepers in the Zoo Animal Technology program and five full time staff members. The purpose of the team is to engage fellow keepers in sustainable practices, as well as educating the public. The Green Team champions and participates in many initiatives at the Zoo and in the community:

  • Researches and aids in implementation of sustainable alternatives to products used in the operation of the Zoo.
  • Takes annual field trips to Leveda Brown Environmental Park to learn about latest recycling and waste reduction practices in Alachua County.
  • Participates in trash clean ups with Keep Alachua Beautiful and invasive plant clean ups with the Gainesville Greenway Challenge.
  • Sets up educational booths at SF Teaching Zoo's conservation events.
