Newly Admitted Students

Note: If you are active military, a veteran, a spouse, a dependent or survivor and a newly admitted freshman, transfer or previous degree student at Santa Fe College, read on.

Welcome to Santa Fe College!

SF appreciates the service of our military veterans and their dependents, and we want you to know you've made a great decision to join more than 600 other active military, veteran and dependent/survivor students furthering their education and future careers in our top-ranked programs.

Follow these next steps toward using your benefits at SF, which are in addition to your next steps for enrollment as a freshman, transfer or previous degree student.

Attend Mandatory VMSS Welcome Orientation

The Veterans Welcome event is a seminar-style orientation required of incoming veteran students prior to their first semester at SF. Hosted by the Veterans and Military Success Services (VMSS) office, the Veterans Welcome event introduces valuable military benefit information and procedures that will apply each semester student veterans use benefits. Spouse and dependent/survivor students will also need to attend this event.

New students will receive notifications by email prior to the event so they can plan to attend and RSVP. Events are scheduled before fall, spring and summer semesters. Refreshments are provided.

Get your benefits file started at SF

To get your benefits file started at SF, you need to submit a few forms. These are provided to you through your eSantaFe account under the Documents Tab, then Public Documents, and finally VMSS Documents.  You must first meet with your academic advisor and completely enroll in your courses to submit these three forms:

Veterans Accountability Statement

Please note that this form contains important information regarding the use of VA benefits throughout your school enrollment.

Request for Enrollment Certification

Complete this form before each semester at SF and return to the VMSS office to avoid delays in payment processing. Please make every effort to firm your schedule before submitting the form. If you make any changes to your courses after submitting it, you must complete a new form with an updated schedule attached.

Prior Credit and Repeat Course Acknowledgement

Submit this form for transferring courses, credits and/or previous experience. You must also submit this form to indicate that you have not attended any other post-secondary institutions of higher learning and will not receive any credit at SF though any of the mentioned mechanisms.

Transfer Students

If you have been using VA benefits at another school, fill out the appropriate VA Request for Change of Program or Place of Training form. Submit this form to the VA as indicated in the form directions. The process for this is started at VA.Gov.

Print the confirmation code after submitting the application online and bring it into the VMSS office.

Additionally, veterans and dependents using the VA Educational Benefits:

Submit to the VMSS office your VA Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or most recent letter from the VA that details your benefits remaining. Whenever you receive an updated COE or letter from the VA detailing your benefits, please submit a copy to the VMSS office during regular business hours.
