Nick McMillen is a 3rd generation United States Navy who served on board the US Gonzalez (DDG-66) and the USS Laboon (DDG-58) as a 2nd Class Petty Officer Fire Controlman. After serving his country, he pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering, graduating with his Associates in the Arts from Santa Fe College and moving onto the University of Florida. During this period, he shifted his career goals instead to help his fellow veterans, acquiring a job at the Alachua County Veteran Services office to assist veterans file for their disability/compensation. He uses his knowledge on Veteran Benefits (both educational and compensation) to give everyone who walks into the VMSS office a holistic approach to succeeding academically.

Carmelos Brown is a first-generation college graduate and a retired United States Army Veteran who honorably served for 21 years. After completing a distinguished military career, he transitioned into civilian life with purpose and determination, channeling his leadership experience into higher education and community service. Carmelos began his academic pathway at Santa Fe College, earning his Associate of Arts degree before transferring to the University of Florida, where he pursued a bachelor’s degree in the Liberal Arts. Throughout his time at UF and Santa Fe, he emerged as a strong advocate for veteran and minority student success. His leadership roles included serving as President of the Student Veterans of America, Senator in the Student Government, Diplomat with the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) initiative, and mediator within the Justice Club. Currently, Carmelos is advancing his education at The George Washington University, where he is pursuing a Master of Public Health. He also serves as an assistant in the Veteran and Military Success Services (VMSS) Department, where he leverages his military expertise, academic background, and commitment to service to support fellow veterans in achieving their educational goals. Driven, engaged, and deeply committed to community uplift, Carmelos continues to bridge the values of military service with his passion for education, public health, and leadership development.
