Student Identification Card Guidance

Purpose

Caesar IDThe purpose of this Guidance is to enhance campus safety and security, improve access to College services and facilities, promote efficient identification of students, and support the overall educational environment at Santa Fe College.

Policy Statement

All currently enrolled students at Santa Fe College are required to obtain and carry a valid Santa Fe College Student Identification Card (Student ID) while on Santa Fe College property or participating in Santa Fe College-sponsored activities. The Student ID Card serves as the official form of identification for Santa Fe College students. A Student ID is not issued to individuals enrolled in certain classes, including Continuing Education or Community Education classes. A student cannot have more than one (1) active Student ID.

Students may be required to present their Student ID upon request by College personnel, including faculty, staff, SFPD, or other designated officials.

The Student ID Card may be used to:

  • Verify student identity.
  • Enter Santa Fe College facilities.
  • Access student services, including tutoring, testing, Fitness Center, Recreation Room, and student activities.
  • Check out library materials and other College resources.
  • Participate in campus events.

Failure to present a valid Student ID when required may result in delayed access to College facilities or services and may require alternative identity verification.

Student Identification Card Issuance Requirements

To obtain a Santa Fe College Student Identification Card, students must present one (1) Acceptable Form of Identification at the time the ID card is issued. All identification documents must be current and unexpired.

Acceptable Forms of Identification are as follows:

  • State-issued driver's license or U.S. governmental issued identification card with student’s photograph,
  • Valid Passport or
  • Official photo identification card issued to the student by a Florida public school within the past five (5) years.

The full name on the presented identification document must match the student’s name as recorded in Santa Fe College’s student information system. College personnel in Identification Card Services may reject a presented identification document and require presentation of another Acceptable Form of Identification if the student’s name does not match or the photograph does not reasonably match the student’s likeness.

A photograph of the student will be taken during the Student ID issuance process. This photograph is considered part of the student’s education record. A Student ID will not be issued without a photograph of the student. College personnel in Identification Card Services may direct that hats, caps, sunglasses, earbuds, bandanas, veils, scarves on the head and other obstructions of the face be removed when taking the photo; hijabs or head coverings for religious purposes are permitted as long as the entire face is visible.

Online and Centers

Students enrolled in only online classes or classes at a Santa Fe College center may complete an online ID appointment and have their Student ID mailed to their current address listed with the College. Students must make address updates through their student information system account prior to the appointment. A Zoom link will be sent at the time of the appointment. To make an appointment, students should email student.life@sfcollege.edu with name and student ID number.

Responsibilities and Misuse

Students are responsible for safeguarding their Student ID. Lost or stolen Student IDs should be reported promptly to one of the Identification Card Services Locations. A replacement Student ID may be subject to an established replacement fee. Student IDs are the property of the College. As a result, the College may require surrender of a Student ID and may revoke benefits or privileges associated with a Student's ID, in whole or in part, at any time if a student withdraws from all classes, graduates, is suspended or expelled, or for any other valid reasons. The following are considered misuse of a Student ID and may be considered misconduct under the Student Conduct Code: lending Student ID to someone else to use; using, with or without consent, someone else’s Student ID; altering a Student ID; and knowingly forging or being in possession of a fraudulent/fake Student ID.
