Visiting Artist Craig Smith brings sights and sounds to Santa Fe College gallery, planetarium

Santa Fe College’s Fine Arts department will host visual and performing artist Craig Smith for a live musical event Thursday, Sept. 17, followed by an opening reception Friday, Sept. 18, for his exhibit “Social Practices (2001-2006).”

Smith’s live musical performance Sept. 17 will run from 7-8:15 p.m., in the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium on the SF Northwest Campus. He will perform songs from his recent album “Emerald Cut” — along with other urban art rock tunes — in his first live music performance in Gainesville. Artist Marina “Shade” Sachs will provide Visualizers that will be displayed on the Planetarium’s dome during the concert.

On Friday, Sept. 18, there will be a reception in the SF Art Gallery (M-147) from 7-9 p.m., to open his exhibit, which will be on display through Oct. 23, 2026. 

Craig Smith is a visual and performing artist whose research and practice explores the foundations of social relations as an agent in cultural production. He creates photographs, videos, sounds, and live performances for a wide range of exhibition spaces including museums, galleries, athletic facilities, health care clinics, and financial institutions. Smith has been included in solo exhibitions and performances across thirteen countries.
