Santa Fe College Student Reflects on Impact of Scholarship and Lifelong Skills of Education

June 11, 2025

“I didn’t have to take out student loans or ask my mom for money she doesn’t have,” said Honesty Houston, a Santa Fe College student who received a scholarship from the Santa Fe Foundation. “I will be forever grateful.”

Houston, who was named a 2024 Woman of Promise, is earning her bachelor’s degree in organizational management and a certificate in personal training, has a career goal to work at a fitness studio.

“I’d love to help create marketing plans and also work one-on-one with clients as a personal trainer to help people feel better physically and emotionally,” she explained.

She gained valuable skills earning her degree at Santa Fe after graduating from Newberry High School.

“The business program at Santa Fe has provided a strong foundation in key areas like leadership, marketing and financial decision-making,” Houston shared. “I’ll be able to apply these skills in any organization I work with as well as in managing my own personal finances.”

She looks forward to being able to donate to Santa Fe College to help other students.

“This scholarship has made such a difference in my life,” she said. “I want to pay it forward by helping future students who need extra support to pursue their education.”
