Anonymous donors have established an endowed scholarship fund to fulfill their passion to help deserving students overcome financial roadblocks to obtaining an education that can enable them to better support their families. The donors have been residents of Florida for 20 years. They committed to each other to establish this fund as part of their legacy. The drive to complete this goal was elevated with the 2023 passing of one of the donors. The motivation for this fund is to “pay it forward.” At one time, one of the donors was a single parent and could not have obtained an education without scholarship funds. The gift was life-changing and has been significant to their family for more than 50 years. It is the hope that this scholarship will have the same effect and provide “new beginnings” for its recipients.

In 1983, Guy and Elizabeth Andrews established a permanently endowed scholarship program for students in Bradford and Alachua counties. Instilled with a life long respect for higher education and determined that young people be given the opportunity to attend college regardless of economic status, the Andrews Scholarship will provide financial assistant to hundreds of students. "Helping people become taxpayers and not tax recipients is what," Guy Andrews felt "educating ought to be about."

This dream became a reality with the opening of the Santa Fe College Andrews Center in 1985. Sensing a need for a permanent facility in Bradford County, Guy Andrews was instrumental in involving the entire community in fundraising efforts to renovate the Bradford County Courthouse into a college facility. Family and friends of Ms. Joyce Riherd made a significant contribution to establish a Public Health Nursing Scholarship in her honor for students from Bradford County who desire to attend Santa Fe College and pursue a nursing career.
Ms. Joyce Doke Riherd graduated nursing school in 1944 in Orlando, FL. She married in 1945, Mr. Robert Riherd. They moved to Lake Butler, FL and in 1947 Joyce first entered "Public Health", working in Bradford and Union Counties. Later they moved to High Springs, FL where she became a housewife and helped manage the small farm. After the death of her husband in 1962, she and her two sons moved back to Bradford County where she worked for Bradford County Health Department. Through the years she worked her way up in management, but her greatest joy was serving in the communities of Bradford County. She made home visits, worked as the school nurse, and worked the office clinics. She also worked at maternity, pediatric, and immunization clinics.
For 30 years she served as a full-time nurse for the Bradford County Public Health Department; 8 years as director. But, typical, of Joyce, she went well beyond the call of duty to care for the needs of the county's less fortunate citizens. On many occasions she spend her own money for those who could not afford to buy their prescriptions. She often carried clothing, blankets, and shoes in the trunk of her car to share with those in need. She was involved with many organizations such as Food Pantry of Bradford County. Joyce enjoyed working in the community, volunteering as a docent for the Eugene L. "Gene" Matthews Historical Museum and was on the Hospital Auxiliary at Shands of Starke. She was active in the Cancer Society and Head Start. Her community service was recognized in 1970 when she won the Chamber of Commerce Community Humanitarian Award.
Joyce was very proud to be a part of this community and to have her name associated with this Nursing Scholarship Program. She hoped that this program will help many people realize their dream of becoming a nurse and serving their community.

The Joseph W. Fordyce scholarship program was established in 1982 by family, friends and colleagues to honor the first President of Santa Fe College.
Dr. Fordyce subscribed to the "open door" admission policy, which ensured that any high school graduate desiring an education be given the opportunity at Santa Fe College. However, President Fordyce realized that the open door policy could not succeed unless there was a substantial financial aid program available at the college to assist students in taking advantage of this educational opportunity. It was his hope that no student would be denied the opportunity for an education at Santa Fe College because of lack of money.
The Board of Trustees of Santa Fe College, in the first such action taken by the board, named the student services building in honor of Joseph W. Fordyce. The faculty and staff of the college and personal friends endowed the scholarship established by his sons, out of their respect and affection for Dr. Joseph Warder Fordyce.
