What if there has been a change in my family's income?
You may qualify for a professional judgment. This process allows a financial aid administrator to adjust your or your parent's income reported on the FAFSA to reflect current circumstances. Go to your My FA Status page in eSantaFe and complete the Special Circumstances Orientation.
Completing the orientation will help you determine if a Professional Judgement will help with your special circumstance. Once the orientation is complete a link to the Professional Judgement worksheet will be available in My FA Status. Complete the worksheet and add the required documentation.
Your professional judgment can take 2-3 weeks to review. During peak times (Beginning of the semester, etc.) it may take longer to review your Professional Judgement request.
After completing the orientation, if you need additional assistance with a special circumstance email eligibilitycoordinator@sfcollege.edu.
What if I have a unique family situation?
Biological or adopted parents and their spouses are the only ones that can be listed on your FAFSA (not grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc.). If you no longer have contact with either of your parents, and this is documented by a third-party (i.e. court records, law enforcement, birth/death certificates and other official documentation), you may qualify for a dependency override.

What if I am experiencing homelessness?
A homeless individual is someone without a home who generally lives in shelters, parks, motels, hotels, cars, or with someone else due to not having anywhere else to go. Any student experiencing housing insecurity (does not have fixed, adequate housing) should contact the SF Ombudsperson. Additionally, visit the Santa Fe College Emergency Aid/Resources page.
