Financial Aid

• Conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist scientists (chemists, biochemists, chemical engineers)
• performing qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids, liquids, and gaseous materials for research and development of new products or processes.
• Technicians are responsible for maintaining quality control, environmental standards, conducting experimental, theoretical, or practical applications of chemistry and related sciences.
• Preparing solutions and reagents, operating scientific instrumentation, preparing samples for analysis, and collecting and assessing data.

The Chemical Technology program is a 24-month program. The program is a total of 64 credit hours. 18 credit hours General education courses, 24 credit hours Science Core, 4 credit hours preprofessional, 15 credit hours professional courses and 3 credit hour Capstone course.

Computer Requirement

Access to and on-going use of a computer is required for all students. The Emerging Technologies department expects each student entering program, to acquire computer hardware and software appropriate to his or her degree program. Competency in the basic use of a computer is required.

Applicants to the Chemistry Technology Program should:

• Possess sufficient eyesight to observe, manipulate, and evaluate instrumentation and procedures
• Possess sufficient hearing to communicate, manipulate, and evaluate instrumentation and procedures
• Possess sufficient physical ability to move 25 pounds and stand for at least 2 hours
• Possess sufficient English verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with potential employers
• Possess sufficient fine motor coordination to safely perform laboratory techniques
• Possess sufficient intellectual and emotional abilities to exercise independent judgment and discretion

Program Effectiveness captures the quality of a program using qualitative data such as program completion and job placement.

Note: This degree is not contingent on passing any external exams or licensures.

The required Chemtech internship hours are 240 at a biotech/chemistry facility. However, most students in the Chemtech A.S./certificate degree track into the Clinical Laboratory Science or Industrial Biotechnology B.A.S. degrees. In that case, these students would only be required to complete an internship at the B.A.S. level.
