Library Mission

The L.W. Tyree Library supports Santa Fe College with knowledgeable staff, appropriate resources and an environment that promotes user success and life-long learning.

Goals

Outreach and Access

Facilitate access for all users to information resources.

  • Provide regular and timely access to the Tyree Library with extended hours during final exam periods.
  • Provide access in a variety of methods to qualified librarians for assistance with questions related to resources and the research process.
  • Provide 24/7 access to library eResources.
  • Provide online renewals and requests.
  • Enable users to borrow materials from statewide institutions and other libraries as needed.
  • Support the SF Centers with online services, on-site information literacy instruction, and materials delivery.

Education Programs

Create innovative and flexible learning opportunities that meet the information needs of all users.

  • Design courses to meet the needs of users.
  • Collaborate with teaching faculty to tailor information literacy instruction in support of the curriculum.
  • Offer flexible scheduling for users.
  • Provide instruction in person and online through:
    • One-on-one interaction
    • For-credit classes
    • Information literacy instruction sessions
    • Webinars
    • Online tutorials and guides
  • Collaborate with other SF departments to offer educational programming for students.

Human Resources

Recruit, develop, assess, and retain quality full and part-time librarians and library staff.

  • Recruit qualified and experienced librarians and library staff.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for librarians, including annual opportunities for workshops and conferences.
  • Provide professional development for library staff, including annual opportunities for workshops and conferences.

Maintain a user-centered library, including:

  • 200,000+ items in the collection, including books, eBooks, databases, media, and streaming content
  • Classrooms

  • Quiet study space
  • Equipment for viewing media

  • Generous study areas on all floors
