SF in Limoges 2026

Pending Board of Trustee Approval

Program Overview

The study abroad program at the University of Limoges, France, will take place two weeks of the full summer session. To ensure a cohesive and well-prepared group, students will meet and start working together synchronously prior to the trip. This will allow them to get to know each other, discuss expectations, and prepare for the academic and cultural experiences they will encounter abroad.

The two-week program itself is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the French healthcare system and education. Participants will engage in activities at various schools within the university, including the Faculty of Medicine and the Institut Limousin de Formation aux Métiers de la Réadaptation (ILFOMER), which specializes in physical rehabilitation. These experiences will be enriched by French language classes throughout the program, enabling students to better communicate and navigate their surroundings.

During the weekend, students will embark on an excursion to the Dordogne region, known for its rich history, stunning landscapes, and culinary traditions. This break from the academic setting will allow students to immerse themselves in French culture and explore the area's unique offerings.

The program also incorporates essential French lessons and cultural activities such as tours of Limoges, a visit to the renowned Bernardaud Porcelain factory, and a trip to the historically significant Martyr Village of Oradour-sur-Glane. These experiences will provide students with a deeper understanding and appreciation of French history, art, and heritage.

Following the two-week stay in Limoges, students will travel to Paris for a two-day visit before returning home.

By offering a comprehensive program that combines pre-trip preparation, immersive academic and cultural experiences, and post-trip reflection, this study abroad opportunity provides health sciences students with a unique and transformative learning experience that will enhance their personal and professional growth.
