How to Apply

Plan Ahead

The HSDE application process has several steps. Students and families should plan ahead and contact the HSDE staff early with any questions.

Complete required testing and assignments

To be considered for the high school dual enrollment program, students must complete the application, submit an essay and provide placement test scores (ACT, SAT). An alternative to ACT/SAT scores is the PERT placement test which is given to all dual enrollment applicants at no charge.

Select a location

While SF has multiple locations, all Alachua County students register for HSDE on the Northwest Campus. In addition to the Northwest Campus, HSDE is offered at three of SF's educational centers:

  • the Andrews Center in Starke,
  • the Davis Center in Archer, and
  • the Watson Center in Keystone Heights.

Choose a track

HSDE students can choose to track towards a certificate or Associate in Science (A.S.) or bachelor’s degree in Career and Technical Education programs or an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree with traditional academic classes.

Academic Dual Enrollment

Are you interested in academics? In the Academic Dual Enrollment program, you’ll take general education classes that prepare you to earn an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree and transfer to a university. Students must submit ACT or SAT scores or take an entrance test when applying.

Transfer Opportunities

SF has direct articulation agreements that guarantee our graduates admission into five universities: Florida A&M University, the University of North Florida, the University of South Florida, the University of West Florida, and the University of the Virgin Islands.

SF also has special partnerships with the University of Florida. According to SF’s Institutional Research, the majority of SF students who earn an A.A. degree transfer to the University of Florida, including 88 percent of students in SF’s Honor’s Program. Dedicated UF advisors visit the Northwest Campus often to help SF students plan a successful transfer into UF.

Application Processes

Alachua County Students and P.K. Yonge Students

Once the application is completed and returned to the Santa Fe College Dual Enrollment office, the student will receive a permission slip and instructions for taking the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT).

The dual enrollment application and PERT, ACT or SAT scores must be on file before the application for admission can be reviewed for consideration. The admissions policy for dual enrollment is based on a variety of factors that look at an individual's needs and abilities, as well as conduct, attendance, state assessment scores, college entrance test scores, and unweighted GPA.

Homeschool Students

Secondary homeschool students who are registered as a homeschooler with a school district that participates in SF HSDE are eligible to apply for dual enrollment. The admissions policy for dual enrollment is based on a variety of factors that look at an individual's needs and abilities and their potential for success on a college campus.

Once a homeschool student is accepted into the dual enrollment program, an agreement will be sent that must be completed by the student and parent/guardian and returned to the HSDE office prior to the first day of classes.

Private School Students

Private school students who wish to apply to the High School Dual Enrollment Program must be enrolled at a school that has an articulation agreement with Santa Fe College. Private school students will be loaned instructional materials.

Bradford County Students

Students interested in dual enrollment through SF's Andrews Center in Starke can find more information on the Andrews Center page.

Students From Other Counties

Santa Fe College primarily serves Alachua and Bradford students. Students in the college's service district have priority over out-of-district students.

If out-of-county students are interested in dual enrollment at Santa Fe College, and their school board has an agreement with Santa Fe College, two letters, in addition to a dual enrollment application and PERT, ACT or SAT scores, are required. The first letter must come from a county school district official that permits the student to participate in SF's Dual Enrollment program. The second must come from the college that serves the student's district and gives approval for the student to participate in our dual enrollment Program. Once the letters of approval, application and test scores are received, the application for admission will be reviewed for consideration.

Out-of-district students should contact the High School Dual Enrollment office on the Northwest Campus.
