Program Overview

The purpose of the Certified Production Technology (CPT)® 4.0 certification program is to recognize through certification, individuals who demonstrate mastery of the foundational, core competencies of advanced manufacturing production at the entry-level to front-line supervisor through successful completion of the certification assessments. The goal of the CPT 4.0 certification program is to raise the level of performance of production technicians to help employers ensure their workforce increases the company’s productivity and competitiveness. The CPT 4.0 program consists of four individual certificate assessments: Safety; Quality Practices and Measurement; Manufacturing Processes and Production; and Maintenance Awareness.

To meet academic admissions standards, students must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age;
  • Be accepted to the College and have completed the entire admissions process;
  • Have identified the Certified Production Technology Career Certificate as their Primary Program. 
  • There is no high school completion or equivalent required. High School Dual Enrollment students are welcome to apply.

Total estimated cost (based on instate tuition, lab fees, and course materials) $1080.

The Certified Production Technology program consists of a single 300 contact hour course completed in one semester.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLO)

  • PLO1: Students will demonstrate proficiency in safety practices and the proper use of personal protective equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • PLO2: Students will demonstrate the ability to apply quality practices and accurately use measurement tools and instruments.
  • PLO3: Students will demonstrate knowledge of manufacturing processes, production systems, and computer-aided manufacturing.
  • PLO4: Students will demonstrate awareness of industrial maintenance practices, including basic mechanical, electrical, and fluid power systems.
  • PLO5: Students will demonstrate professional workplace communication, teamwork, and employability skills.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of technology, including technological literacy and technological systems.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of workplace safety, including use of PPE, OSHA regulations, and emergency procedures.
  • Demonstrate workplace communication skills and teamwork, including reading technical documents and collaborating effectively.
  • Read and accurately interpret blueprints and schematics used in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of graphic design by generating and interpreting computer-aided drawings.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using measurement tools, instruments, and testing devices for quality assurance.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of production processes and computer-aided manufacturing planning and control.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of industrial tools and processes, including basic machine tools, CNC machines, and welding technology.
  • Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of AC/DC electrical systems and programmable logic control.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of fluid power systems.
  • Demonstrate employability skills and knowledge of career opportunities in advanced manufacturing and engineering technologies.
