CES Alternative Spring Break 2020: Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve
Monday, March 2 - Wednesday, March 4, 2020
The Guana Tolomato Matanzas (GTM) National Estuarine Research Reserve is a collaboration between Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The Reserve covers 74,000 acres of coastal lands in northeast Florida from Ponte Vedra Beach to Palm Coast. The GTM Research Reserve is one of 29 National Estuarine Research Reserves around the country that focuses on research, education, and stewardship. The GTM Research Reserve conducts biological monitoring and research and sees over 5,000 students per year in its K-16 environmental education programs in addition to community education presentations, teacher workshops, and other special events or outreach activities. SF students will volunteer alongside GTM staff to support their efforts and learn about environmental issues concerning our local community.
Requirements: To participate in this trip, you must be currently enrolled in at least three credits at Santa Fe College with a GPA of at least 2.0 without any outstanding fees. Students must be at least 18 years old to participate in overnight trips.
If you are selected to participate, you will be notified by Wednesday, February 5 and must stop by S-135 to sign travel documents by Friday, February 7. There are eight spots open on this trip, followed by a waitlist.
