Equity-Minded Education aims to improve overall success and retention rates while narrowing equity gaps between our diverse student populations.
Project Focus: Improving Student Success
To promote academic excellence while narrowing equity gaps, Santa Fe College will design and implement a professional development program emphasizing equity-minded teaching practices that encourage academic success for all students.
The fall 2021 to fall 2022 retention rate for Black First-Time-in-College (FTIC) students was 42.86% compared to 62.84% and 67.49%, respectively for White and Hispanic FTIC students.
In fall 2022, 62.88% of Black students completed LAS and CTE courses successfully, compared with 79.15% of their White classmates and 75.17% of their Hispanic classmates.

- Introduce and Reinforce Equity-Minded Teaching Themes
The Center for Teaching & Learning Excellence will support faculty with coordinated equity-minded professional development so that they can create more successful learning environments. - Implement and Assess Departmental Action Research Plans
Faculty will collaborate to review student success data, apply equity-minded teaching strategies, and assess the impact of the equity-minded action research plans they implement. - Partner with Students for Equity-Minded Education
Students serve as consultants to raise awareness of equity challenges at SF and collaborate with faculty to build an equitable learning environment.
