*The X-Lab institute is modeled after the X-Lab at the University of Florida. SF2UF Bridges participants will begin their paid experience with an eight-week summer program, the X-Lab Institute, which they will continue in parallel with their mentored summer experience in a preceptor’s laboratory. The X-Lab Institute will provide training in basic biomedical laboratory and behavioral science research techniques, quantitative analysis (including basic statistics and graphical presentation of data), and continued discussions of the responsible conduct of science. The curriculum will enhance academic preparation by introducing and reinforcing basic science and mathematics concepts and skills with a primary focus on biomedical and behavioral research skills.
