Program Overview
Graduates of this program will be prepared for a career in the growing information technology industry in occupations such as database administration, network and computer systems administration, software development, computer systems analysis and computer programming. Students can choose from three concentrations within this B.A.S. program:
- Networking
- Programming
- Security
An estimated 100 jobs for these professionals will become available each year in Alachua and Bradford counties from 2015-2021, while more than 900 annual job openings will become available in North Central Florida.
Academic Content
The Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) in Information Systems Technology (IST) builds upon the skills learned in one of the following A.S. programs:
The B.A.S. program is specifically designed to provide a smooth transition from either of these two A.S. degrees into the bachelor’s degree program, incorporating 60 credit hours of A.S. degree coursework into the B.A.S. degree. The B.A.S. program provides A.S. graduates an opportunity to become more proficient in programming, network design and management, database management, and provides the necessary knowledge for upcoming IT trends: Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Virtual Reality (VR), Internet of Things (IoT), and Mobile Security.
Program Prerequisites
- Have a 2.5 overall GPA.
- Have earned a minimum of an Associate in Science in Information Technology.
