Program Overview
The Visual Arts Program includes eight studios for instruction in the foundations of two-dimensional and three-dimensional design and offers seven studio disciplines: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics, Jewelry and Photography.
Together with offerings in both Art History and a variety of electives within each studio discipline, the Visual Arts Program provides the necessary foundation for students preparing for transfer into competitive-entry upper division Visual Arts studies. While preparing a large contingent of Visual Arts majors, the program also serves students at large through its popular General Education course offering, Art Fundamentals.
Students seeking an A.A. in Art Studio will have a love for art, including the historical and contemporary works of art, architecture, and design. This degree option provides a comprehensive foundation in the studio arts.
The Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree is a two-year liberal arts degree designed for the student who intends to transfer into a bachelor's degree program. You do not earn an A.A. in a specific major; however, you do have the opportunity to track toward a specific major at a university by choosing a related advisement track at Santa Fe College. If you don’t see a track geared toward your intended transfer major, you may choose General Studies and speak with your academic advisor.
