Program Overview
The fundamental goal of Education programs at Santa Fe College is to encourage and prepare students for advanced degrees in early childhood, elementary or secondary education careers and ongoing professional development.
To achieve this, academic course work, field experience, and class projects will be used to help students: develop knowledge of learning, teaching, and schooling, refine critical reflection and creative thinking skills and dispositions, and foster growth of professional awareness and behavior.
Three prerequisite courses have been designed for education majors. These courses are required for admission to any state-approved teacher education program in Florida.
Career Possibilities
Students pursuing a degree in education usually work as teachers at the elementary or secondary level. Further career options include guidance counselor, education administrator, librarian, coach and other positions in the public and private education systems.
The Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree is a two-year liberal arts degree designed for the student who intends to transfer into a bachelor's degree program. You do not earn an A.A. in a specific major; however, you do have the opportunity to track toward a specific major at a university by choosing a related advisement track at Santa Fe College. If you don’t see a track geared toward your intended transfer major, you may choose General Studies and speak with your academic advisor.
