Students interested in earning the International Studies Certificate will be required to complete a total of 12 credit hours in courses that predominantly examine cultures, traditions, states, and/or regions throughout the world.
Such courses embrace global perspectives of life beyond the borders of the United States of America as reflected in the learning outcomes established for each course. For more information on language courses see the International Activities link.
Students may satisfy the curriculum requirements in three ways:

Option 2
Enroll in a course (or courses) as part of a study abroad trip. Courses taken with through SF’s Study Abroad opportunities count toward the 12-credit curriculum requirement even if they are not on the pre-approved list for Option 1.
Option 3
Enroll in a course in a course with at least 50% international content (this means at least half of the topics, readings, issues, etc. studied in the class center on cultures or countries beyond the borders of the United States of America). After successfully completing the course, you can file a petition (link to PDF here) to have the course count toward the completion if the curricular requirements of the ISC. When you have completed the petition, send it by e-mail to Eugenio Zaldivar, eugenio.zaldivar@sfcollege.edu.
Transfer Students
Students transferring to Santa Fe from other institutions can have coursework completed at those institutions recognized for the ISC. In the case of courses not on our pre-approved list (see Option 1), each course will need to be approved by the petition process. To have a course from a previous institution approved for the ISC, please submit a petition (link to PDF here).
