Information
Mrs. Mixon was born in Orange Park, Florida and graduated from Interlachen High School. She was a dual-enrolled student during high school and finished up her AA degree from St. Johns River Community College while also taking courses here at Santa Fe Community College. She began her BA degree at St Leo University then took a break to begin a professional career in water quality as a quality assurance manager.
Mrs. Mixon completed her BA in Psychology in 2006 with the idea she may like to work with children in some sort of school setting. Maybe a counselor. She did some work in K-5 and realized quickly that would not be a good fit. She then went to St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) in Palatka, Florida as an environmental scientist for the next 7 years; returning to the water component she had enjoyed from earlier in her career endeavors. While at the SJRWMD, she earned her master of science degree in soil and water science from the University of Florida.
She has now been teaching at SF College since 2012 and is excited about that. She found something that allows for sharing knowledge and keeping her science/environment curiosities intrigued. She enjoys challenging her students to think about science and possibly even enjoy it. She appreciates communication, clarity, and an open door/cell phone/ email policy.
