Information

I was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but I have lived most of my life in the Central Michigan area.  I worked eleven years for the Michigan Department of Mental Health as a direct care worker before beginning my higher learning education as a non-traditional student.  Like the students I am now teaching, my education experience began at a community college, i.e., Mid Michigan Community College, where I earned an Associates in Business in Computer Information Systems.  I then transferred to Central Michigan University where I earned both my Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts Degrees in the field of Sociology with a Social and Criminal Justice concentration.

I taught at Mid Michigan Community College, and Lansing Community College for two years as an adjunct instructor before accepting my current faculty position here at Santa Fe College.  I am looking forward to a long and productive experience teaching at SF, and working with a Social & Behavioral Science Department filled with faculty who advocate student success and the improvement of our community.  As an SF faculty member, I intend to do my part to enhance student success and improve the community of Gainesville, Florida that I am happy to be a part of.

As an educator, I am interested in exploring with my students the unequal access to resources and institutions, e.g., education, healthcare, economy, government.  I promote the development of critical thinking skills to assess the issues that lead to inequality, and develop alternative solutions in the pursuit of social justice.  A basic quality of life should be a human right.
