Garrett Hecker

Information

Dr. Garrett Hecker is a percussionist, composer, and educator in Gainesville, FL. As a percussionist, he has performed with many ensembles including the Area Stage Theater Co., Alhambra Orchestra, Sunrise Pops, University of Florida Percussion Ensemble, and others. From 2013 through 2018, Hecker was the Director of Nuclear Music, a chamber ensemble committed to performing music of the 20th and 21st centuries. In 2018, he began directing the Santa Fe Percussion Ensemble. Since 2015, Hecker has been the Director of the Percussion Studio at Santa Fe College.

 

As a composer, Hecker has composed music in many genres for a variety of ensembles. From 2015 through 2018, he was the Assistant Director of the Florida Electronic Music Studio. There, he helped organize the Florida Contemporary Music Festival and helped design UF’s new 22-channel ambisonic speaker system. In 2018, he completed his Ph.D. in music composition at UF.

Ph.D. in Music in Music Composition with a cognate in Musicology from University of Florida
