Honors Class Highlights:
THE1000 – Theater Appreciation (Russell Schultz, Mon/Wed 11:30am–12:45pm)
Step behind the curtain and into the world of live performance. This course explores theater as a living art form, from the playwright's page to the director's vision to the actor's craft and tracing its evolution from ancient ritual to modern stagecraft. Expect to analyze plays, examine how design and performance choices shape meaning, and likely attend a live production to see the concepts in action. It's a hands-on, discussion-driven way to sharpen how you read stories, performances, and the people telling them. No acting experience required, just curiosity about what makes a story come alive on stage.
CLP2140 – Honors Abnormal Psychology (Dr. Ryan Barbeau, Tue/Thu 2:30–3:45pm)
What does it actually mean for a mind to be "abnormal"? This course pulls back the curtain on the major categories of psychological disorders — how they're defined, how clinicians diagnose them, and how our understanding of them has shifted over time. You'll examine the competing biological, psychological, and social theories that shape today's debates in the field, and connect what you're learning to real-world questions about mental health, treatment, and stigma. Dr. Barbeau brings a rare depth of real-world experience to the classroom: a licensed clinical psychologist who has worked in public schools, community mental health centers, a veteran's hospital, and a correctional facility, and who spent a decade training doctoral students at UF.
