Handler Guidelines
Control: A service animal or service animal in training must be under the control of its handler at all times. The individual must maintain control of the animal through leash, voice, signal, or other effective controls.
Health and vaccinations: The service animal must be clean, in good health and wear a current rabies vaccination tag.
Cleanup: Handler must collect and dispose of solid waste from the service animal. If, due to a disability, the handler is unable to do so, the handler shall make alternative arrangements to do so. Service animals must be housebroken (have the ability to control waste elimination).
Damages: A service animal handler assumes full financial responsibility for any damages to property or injury to individuals caused by the animal on campus.
Appropriate care: Handler must commit to providing proper care of the animal while on campus. Incidents of mistreatment will be reported to the proper authorities.
While on campus, the service animal:
- should not initiate contact with someone without the handler's direct permission;
- should not display any behaviors or make noises that are disruptive to the college community such as growling, whining, or barking;
- should not block an aisle or passageway.
