Classes Held at Keystone Heights
A few weeks prior to class, please visit the Watson center to familiarize yourself with the campus and the room in which you'll be teaching. You may see Karen Lake or Jennifer Pritchard and they'll be happy to answer any questions you have about the facility. On the first night of class, please pick up your course envelopes from Mr. Tom Prahl. He's the night manager, and his many responsibilities are to give you the packet, direct you & your students to the appropriate classroom and collect the envelopes at the end of the evening. Your envelope contains your class roster, sign-in sheet, door sign, class evaluations, white & red registration forms and a return envelop. To ensure your first night goes smoothly, please follow the procedures below:
- Arrive early to pick up your envelope and set up your classroom.
- Place door sign on the door & greet people as they arrive.
- Have everyone sign in.
- If the student is not on your roster, please have them fill out a white registration form and collect the registration fee. The only forms of payment accepted are check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express. CASH IS NOT ACCEPTED!
- If the student states they just registered prior to arriving, please make a note to call the Community Education office the next day to verify.
- If the student is over 60 years old as indicated on their ID and your class accepts Senior Waivers, please have them fill out the white & red registration form.
- Place sign-in sheet, registration forms and fees collected in the return envelope provided. Please seal the envelope.
- Give the sealed envelope to Mr. Prahl.
- Have a great class!
Throughout the term, if you have a problem with your room or a student, please notify the Community Education Office.
Hints and Ideas on Class Presentation
When speaking to people not familiar with your subject, it is easy to become too complex or complicated in a short session. To think basic, try to:
- Put your central concepts or ideas into just a few points. What is the core element here? What is different? What makes this idea or topic tick?
- Think of any anecdotes, comparisons, similarities, or stories that would make your points more clear.
- Survey your friends or neighbors. Ask them what they know about the topic, or ask them what they would like to know.
- Allow and encourage questions from participants in order to gauge their level of understanding.
- Be very careful about the language you use. Every field of knowledge has its own language. Use the language of the group you are addressing. A "bit" is one thing to computer folks, quite another to horseback riders. It is easy to confuse your audience simply by using language they may not understand.

Registration Forms
Registrations for Community Education classes are taken until the class starts in most instances. We also take registrations at the door. At times, it is necessary for you to take the registration forms from the student.
Please keep in mind:
- Cash is NOT accepted. The only forms of payment at the class are check, money order, Visa, Mastercard or American Express.
- The registration form must be filled completely and legibly. To register the person, we have to be able to read their information.
- The white forms are for regular registrations and the RED forms are for Senior Waivers.
- Senior Waivers are for students 60+ and the class must have met the minimum. NOT ALL CLASSES ACCEPT SENIOR WAIVERS.
- Please ensure your completed registration forms are forwarded to your class coordinator, Rosalind Roberts or Melissa Graham.
