Online Tests and Remote Proctoring
Some students may now be required to use either Honorlock or Respondus for remote online test proctoring. View the information below. Make sure you are completely ready and have prepared your computer for taking a test using either tool. We strongly recommend taking a practice test if your instructor has set one up to get ready.
- Most tests will be launched out of Canvas and students should log into it from the main College login website. If your instructor provides different information about beginning your test, follow that.
- You must also provide an identification card to verify your identity before you can start the test. You can use any government issued ID (e.g., driver license or passport) or a student ID that has your photo.
- You must take your test in a setting where you are alone.
- You do not have to schedule any appointments with Honorlock or Respondus in order to take your test. Simply start the test and then use the directions to take it provided by the tool. Instructors typically set time blocks up for when your test will be open. Make sure to note these because the tools will not allow you to take the test outside of these time blocks.
- Please contact your instructor if you have any questions about this process before you begin taking your test.
- Students can take online tests in the College's Testing Center even if Honorlock or Respondus were used to create your tests. Use the Testing Center schedule below to see when it is available. Students should arrive as early as they can to ensure they have sufficient time to complete tests. The Testing Center can be busy (especially during mid-term and final exam periods), so plan ahead!
Honorlock information (if you use this tool)
- Honorlock requires a computer (laptop or desktop), webcam, and microphone. Please note that most webcams have a microphone integrated into them. You cannot use Honorlock on mobile devices (phone) or iPads.
- Honorlock offers multiple ways to get support. We recommend using their Live Chat (both before and during any exam). You can also contact them using email (Support@Honorlock.com).
- Honorlock requires the use of Google Chrome during the test. If you do not have it on your computer, use the link in the previous sentence to download it. You will be also be asked to download an extension to Chrome that enables Honorlock. Chrome will work on both PC and MAC computers. The Student Guide walks you through the process. If you have any issues with the browser extension, you may need to create a new profile within Google.
- If you are taking a Canvas quiz, use the regular directions. If you are taking a test in a third-party publisher website (Pearson, McGraw-Hill, Cengage, etc), use the universal exam directions.
- Review the Honorlock student knowledge base before you start your test:
- starting exams
- during exams (calculator and file upload)
- after exams (test submission and removing Honorlock extension)
-
Review the Honorlock Student Privacy Statement and watch how Honorlock protects student privacy. You can also view the Honorlock student privacy FAQs.
-
Note: Students must pay for Honorlock tests during the 2023-2024 academic year for tests taken off-campus. The cost for a single test is $9.45 or $19.95 for the entire course (includes all tests given in a single course). Students will be prompted to pay after starting their test while in Honorlock.
- Honorlock uses artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor students during tests. If your behavior is flagged, a live proctor may "pop-in" to your session to determine what is going on. The sessions are recorded and reviewed by Honorlock and your instructor to determine whether any testing violations have occurred.
Respondus information (if you use this tool)
- Respondus requires a computer (laptop or desktop), webcam, and microphone. Please note that most webcams have a microphone integrated into them. You can also use it on tablets, Chromebooks, and mobile devices (phone). Note: mobile devices are not recommended because they do not give sufficient space for you to see and experience all test questions or may make viewing your behaviors more difficult.
- Respondus offers multiple support options, including Technical Support. You can also submit a ticket on that site for any problems you encounter. Help is also available from within the LockDown Browser or Monitor programs. Use the Live Chat option with buttons that say "It's not working" or "need more help" to reach a live person.
- Respondus requires downloading their LockDown Browser to your computer in order to
take the test. This software will work on both PC and MAC computers. You will normally be prompted to download the software before your test begins if
you do not already have it. If your test is a Canvas quiz, download the software ahead of time and open the software to access Canvas.
- Do not try to download this software to College computers.
- Students should review the Respondus student experience website and the New Quizzes Respondus Student Guide for step-by-step instructions and more information.
- Respondus uses artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor students during tests. Your behavior may be flagged by this system, and your instructor will be prompted to review your test video to determine if any testing violations have occurred.
