Steps for deciding on a University major

Advisors at Santa Fe College are able to help thousands of students successfully transfer because we get more specific than helping them "just complete an A.A." An A.A. without the right transfer requirements or GPA significantly limits your options for transferring. Here are a few steps that may help:

  • Visit your Academic Advisor and Career Exploration Center (CEC) with any options for University majors or Universities you have considered
  • Choose at least three potential majors from at least two different Universities. Research and rank these according to: a. classes needed to transfer and your interest and skill in those classes, b. what you would study at the Univ., and c. the types of jobs this major would help prepare you for.
  • Discuss this ranking with your advisor and the Career Exploration Center. If step 2. or subsequent conversation with advisor/CEC does not help you gain clarity, choose a new set of potential majors and universities for research and ranking.

This sample plan, prepared using information available as of 06/16/17, is not a binding agreement of any kind between Santa Fe College and the student, but merely represents a potential curriculum which may be altered from time to time as appropriate to meet the student’s academic objectives and the transfer admission requirements of the University of Florida. The student should inquire each semester before registering to determine current requirements and possible changes to the suggested curriculum.
