The Pathways to Brighter Futures program is a Career Pathways Program that combines rigorous and high-quality education, training, and other services that—


- Are aligned with the skill needs of businesses and industries in the Alachua County and the state of Florida;
- Prepare students to be successful in secondary or postsecondary education;
- Provide counseling and support to help students achieve their education and career goals;
- When applicable, offer educational activities at the same time and in the same context as workforce preparation activities and training for a specific career goal;
- Organize education, training, and other services to meet the needs of students to accelerate the educational and career advancement of students to greatest extent possible;
- When possible, enable students to attain a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, and at least one recognized postsecondary credential; and
- Help students enter or advance within a specific occupation or occupational cluster.
We are also offer a Florida’s Integrated Career and Academic Preparation System (FICAPS) integrated GED® Preparation or English Literacy course, which is paired with a career and technical course. Currently students in the SF Adult Education program can enroll in an integrated FICAPS Nursing Assistant (NA) program. The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) career pathways definition includes the following components:
- concurrently enrolling students in the GED® Integrated or English Literacy Career and Technical Education (ELCATE) and a career and technical clock hour certificate program at SF College that is tied to high-growth high-wage industries, fields, or occupations in Alachua County.
- providing a combination of academic and occupational instruction, career guidance, and support services.
- accelerating students’ progress and making the basic skills component more relevant to their interests and career goals.
- helping adult learners obtain postsecondary certificates and achieve basic skill gains more quickly than when they are enrolled in traditional adult education programs.
- increasing the number of students that earn their high school equivalency diploma and begin the pathway to earn credentials that have labor market value.
How do we offer these services?
We offer personal and individualized support to all registered Adult Education students at the Northwest Campus, the Blount Center in downtown Gainesville and the Davis Center in Archer. Assistance is given to students with making career and educational plans, applying for federal student financial aid (FAFSA), searching and applying for jobs, and learning the skills necessary to be competitive in today’s job market.
