The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is your ticket to free money for college, and the earlier you fill out and submit your application, the more money you are likely to get. In addition to federal student aid, the FAFSA determines other forms of aid that you may qualify for, like state grants, loans, and private scholarships. 

Top 5 Tips For Filling Out the FAFSA

1. Apply early! Some grants have limited funds and are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

2. Everyone should apply. Nearly 95% of students are eligible for some kind of aid. Don't leave money on the table. 

3. List all the schools you're applying to. Don't forget SF! Our school code is 001519.

4. Import your financial data! Using the IRS data retrieval tool will save you and your family time.

5. Mark your calendar for Oct. 1! You'll need to continue filling out the FAFSA each year that you're in school.
