CTE Curriculum Subcommittee: Course Changes

2013

  • The following courses changed from the “O” (occupational course designation) to “P” (parallel designation) in the Business Programs Department. The “O” classification is an arbitrary designation at the institution level and is not a designation imposed by the state. All of the listed courses are taught by masters-level faculty and all are marked as “transferable to an institution with the same course number” in the state course numbering system. Having these courses occupational rather than parallel prevents them from being used as electives by students in our bachelor’s programs. (Changes approved 11/20/2013)

Cardiovascular Technology Program - changes approved 04/11/2011

The Cardiovascular Technology Program proposed curriculum changes in response to the FL DOE eliminating the Associate of Science degree in Cardiopulmonary Technology. Historically, these 2 programs have shared coursework and the current CVT program emerged from the CPT program. The CVT program has eliminated courses associated with pulmonary testing. The proposed changes are listed below.

  • The courses associated with cardiopulmonary technology have been retired. They are:
    • CVT 1430 Pulmonary Function Testing I
    • CVT 2510 Blood Gas Analysis and the associated lab
    • CVT 2431 Pulmonary Functions Testing II and the associated lab
  • The credit hours from the elimination of the above course work were used to create labs in necessary classes, CVT 1610 Physics of Ultrasound and Instrumentation and CVT 1500 Cardiovascular Electrocardiography.
  • A portion of the relevant curriculum from CVT 2510 Blood Gas Analysis will be retained and incorporated in CVT 2420 Invasive Cardiology I.
  • The Florida DOE has tentatively granted an addition of 3 credit hours to the Associate of Science degree in Cardiovascular Technology. These hours were utilized to add a registry review course in terms 4 and 5 of the program.
