Authorization to Drive

Eligibility Requirements

College Vehicles

Individuals who wish to drive college-owned vehicles must:

  • Be a Santa Fe employee
  • Be at least 25 years old (see note below)
  • Possess a valid driver license which has accrued no more than 10 points within the last 5 years
  • Have no other traffic and/or criminal violations which might compromise safety
  • Complete a Distracted Driver Training session online

Note: Individuals who are over 18 but under 25 may be approved if driving is part of their job description.

Golf/Utility Carts

Individuals who wish to drive a golf/utility cart on campus as part of their job duties must:

  • Be a Santa Fe employee
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Possess a valid driver license
  • Read and sign the Golf/Utility Cart Policy
  • Complete cart operation training with an approved trainer
  • View Golf/Utility Cart Online Training and take completion quiz
Note: The Safety Coordinator reserves the right to check the driving record of any individual with restrictions on their driver license. 

How to Request Authorization

College Vehicles

  1. Complete an Authorization to Drive Request Form
  2. Attach a legible copy of your valid driver license
  3. Deliver these to the Safety Coordinator (F-33)
  4. If driving record meets SF guidelines, you will receive login instructions for a Distracted Driver Training session. 80% passing score (2 attempts max) is required for approval. After successful completion, the Safety Coordinator will notify you and your supervisor of approval status.
  5. If driving record does not meet SF guidelines, you and your supervisor will be notified by email.

Golf/Utility Carts

  1. Complete an Authorization to Drive Request Form
  2. Attach a legible copy of your valid driver license
  3. Attach a signed copy of the Golf/Utility Cart Policy
  4. Deliver these to the Safety Coordinator (F-33)
  5. You will be sent an email invitation from Canvas to complete an online cart safety training course. 80% passing score (2 attempts max) is required for approval.
  6. After successful completion, the Safety Coordinator will send you the name of an approved trainer for arranging on-cart training.
  7. After the approved trainer submits required documentation, you and your supervisor will be notified by email of your approval status.

IMPORTANT: Paperwork and training must be completed in a timely fashion. Incomplete authorization requests will be discarded after eight (8) weeks.
