The Correctional Officer to Law Enforcement Officer Academy at Santa Fe College prepares students who hold certification as correctional officers to become entry-level law enforcement officers in Florida. This minimum standards coursework is regulated by Florida statutes and is a highly structured and disciplined program with special rules, policies, and procedures. Applicants must meet certain eligibility requirements before gaining admission to the Academy.
The program will vary in length depending on weekly schedule and consist of 515 contact hours. Students can expect to learn practical skills through classroom instruction and participate in a variety of training simulation exercises. Top-notch instructors bring their on-the-job experiences and knowledge into the classroom delivering curriculum developed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). The curriculum consists of 16 chapters of training including legal topics, human diversity, firearms, and other topics that the State mandates.
Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the FDLE State Officer Certification Exam (SOCE).
