eBooks in the Library Catalog

 

Electronic books (eBooks) are books you can read online at any time. These books are listed in the library catalog; to retrieve only eBooks, you can use the eBooks tab.

To log in to view eBooks, you will need a valid 8-digit Santa Fe ID number. This number is your Borrower ID. Your PIN is the last four digits of your borrower ID. If you are having problems logging in, please contact the library's circulation desk at 352-395-5412.

Santa Fe Only

ACLS Humanities E-Book

A collection of humanities-related, scholarly books. These books can also be accessed searching through the library catalog.

Credo

An online library of encyclopedia, dictionaries, and reference books that are easily searchable by topic. Credo is an excellent starting place for students doing background research on their topic. These books can also be accessed searching through the library catalog.

Ebook Central (ProQuest)

Includes the College Complete collection of over 25,000 titles covering the subject areas that most college curriculum requires. The Ebook Central search engine makes finding books on topics easy as well as quickly checked out to be read online or downloaded to a computer or device immediately. These books can also be accessed searching through the library catalog.

EBSCO eBook Collection

Searchable collection of eBooks selected for Florida's College System. Includes downloadable versions of titles for portable e-readers (view tutorial on downloading here). These books can also be accessed searching through the library catalog.

Gale Virtual Reference Library

Includes over 400 different reference sources, including encyclopedia, almanacs, and dictionaries.

A collection of digital books and audiobooks that may be checked out from the Alachua County Library District, and requires an ACLD library card.

29,000+ eBooks that can be downloaded to a Kindle, Nook, iPad and other eReaders. Includes foreign language books and nonfiction.

Project Gutenberg

The very first website dedicated to providing free eBooks to download. All eBooks are public domain, and can be downloaded to your computer or any e-reader.

Downloading eBooks

Select the device you have and follow the instructions to download an eBook found from the library catalog (EBSCO or Ebook Central).

Android

NOTE: EBSCO has an Android app that will allow you to directly download and read books on your Android devices; download it here.

  1. Set up an Adobe ID through Adobe Digital Editions.
  2. Download the Bluefire Reader app on your Android.
  3. Open the Bluefire Reader app and authorize with your Adobe ID.
  4. On your device, locate the eBook you wish to download.
    1. EBSCO Books: Click the Download this eBook (Offline) link, sign in or create an EBSCO account, and then Checkout & Download the book.
    2. EBook Central Books: Click the Sign In link in the upper right corner. Click Full Download and follow the directions.
  5. The eBook will open in the Bluefire Reader app.

Computer/Windows Tablet

  1. Download Adobe Digital Editions to your computer or tablet.
  2. Set up an Adobe ID through Adobe Digital Editions and authorize your device.
  3. Locate the eBook you wish to download.
    1. EBSCO Books: Click the Download this eBook (Offline) link, sign in or create an EBSCO account, and then Checkout & Download the book.
    2. EBook Central Books: Click the Sign In link in the upper right corner. Click Full Download and follow the directions.
  4. Open the book with Adobe Digital Editions.
  5. You may read the book by clicking on its cover.

iOS (iPad / iPhone)

NOTE: EBSCO has an iOS app that will allow you to directly download and read books on your iOS device; download it here.

  1. Set up an Adobe ID through Adobe Digital Editions.
  2. Download the Bluefire Reader app from the App Store and install on your iPad or iPhone.
  3. Open the Bluefire Reader app and authorize with your Adobe ID.
  4. On your device, locate the eBook you wish to download.
    1. EBSCO Books: Click the Download this eBook (Offline) link, sign in or create an EBSCO account, and then Checkout & Download the book.
    2. EBook Central Books: Click the Sign In link in the upper right corner. Click Full Download and follow the directions.
  5. The eBook will open in the Bluefire Reader app.

Kindle Fire

Regular Kindles are not supported.

NOTE: EBSCO has a Kindle Fire app that will allow you to directly download and read books on your Kindle Fire; download it here.

  1. Download Adobe Digital Editions to your computer.
  2. Set up an Adobe ID through Adobe Digital Editions and authorize your computer.
  3. On your Kindle Fire, go to Settings > Devices and "Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown Sources."
  4. Download the Aldiko Reader app on your Kindle Fire; please note that you will need to install it directly from the Aldiko website.
  5. On your computer, locate the eBook you wish to download.
    1. EBSCO Books: Click the Download this eBook (Offline) link, sign in or create an EBSCO account, and then Checkout & Download the book.
    2. EBook Central Books: Click the Sign In link in the upper right corner. Click Full Download and follow the directions.
  6. Open the book with Adobe Digital Editions.
  7. Connect your Kindle Fire to your computer with a USB cord; it will appear at the bottom of the Bookshelves list within Adobe Digital Editions, listed as Aldiko.
  8. Drag the book you wish to read onto the Aldiko name; you will need to authorize the Kindle Fire with your Adobe ID.
  9. You may now read the book in Aldiko Reader.

Kobo / Nook / Sony Reader

  1. Download Adobe Digital Editions to your computer.
  2. Set up an Adobe ID through Adobe Digital Editions and authorize your computer.
  3. On your computer, locate the eBook you wish to download.
    1. EBSCO Books: Click the Download this eBook (Offline) link, sign in or create an EBSCO account, and then Checkout & Download the book.
    2. EBook Central Books: Click the Sign In link in the upper right corner. Click Full Download and follow the directions.
  4. Open the book with Adobe Digital Editions.
  5. Connect your Kobo / Nook / Sony Reader to your computer with a USB cord; it will appear at the bottom of the Bookshelves list within Adobe Digital Editions.
  6. Drag the book you wish to read onto the title of your device; you will need to authorize your reader with your Adobe ID.
