Services for Users With Disabilities

The Lawrence W. Tyree Library at Santa Fe College is committed to providing equitable access to library materials, programs, and services to all patrons.

All Santa Fe College students with disabilities are encouraged to register with the Disabilities Resource Center (DRC).

Users with disabilities are encouraged to ask library staff members for assistance or accommodation in using any library services. All staff working in public service areas of the library will accommodate any reasonable request from a patron with a disability. However, if more assistance is needed than can be provided on demand, an appointment of extended service should be arranged by contacting (Y-227) at 352-395-5408 or the reference desk at 352-395-5409.

Physical Accessibility

The library building (located in Building Y on the Northwest Campus) is wheelchair accessible. There are eight handicapped parking spaces in the parking lot directly east of the library. A wheelchair ramp provides access into the building, and a mechanically operated entrance/exit door is available. There are two elevators providing access to all three floors of the library. Each floor has handicapped restroom stalls and water fountains. All service desks have low counter heights. The third floor is equipped with a Garaventa Evacu-Trac to aid in evacuating users in the case of an emergency.

Reference Services

Reference librarians are available whenever the library is open for assistance with using library resources, including the online catalog and online databases, and will provide directional assistance for locating library materials. Contact the reference desk on the second floor of the library, by phone at 352-395-5409, or by emailing . Librarians are also available for simple reference questions through the Ask a Librarian chat service.

Materials Retrieval

All students and faculty may request books be pulled from the third floor through the library catalog or by contacting the library's first-floor circulation desk in-person or by phone at 352-395-5412. Books requested online are usually available within one business day. In-person and phone requests will be handled by staff as soon as duties permit, usually within 30 minutes. If staffing at the desk is limited or the staff cannot assist the patron at the time of a request, the patron and the staff will mutually agree upon a time when the patron may best be assisted. Books must be checked out with a valid Santa Fe student ID card.

Electronic Resources

The L.W. Tyree Library has many electronic resources that can be accessed from off-campus. We currently have over 70,000 eBooks, found through the library catalog, and access to over 100 library databases, providing online access to millions of journal and newspaper articles. For instructions on how to access these resources, you may contact the library's reference desk on the second floor or by phone at 352-395-5409.
