I was born and raced in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is a US territory therefore I am a US citizen with a Hispanic heritage. I am a chemical engineer by training. I had my PhD in chemical engineering with focus on the use of nanotechnology for water remediation. I worked for 1 year at the Food Science Department at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez. My research project there was on the use of nanotechnology for bio-renewable food packaging applications. I moved to Gainesville and got the offer to be a faculty member at Santa Fe College. I never though I would love teaching this much! My favorite part of teaching is the lab! Now I work on the use of the technologies in the classroom.
I have proficiency in both Spanish and English. I am currently learning Portuguese due to a recent faculty exchange. I love to travel!. So far I travel to Brazil (2015), Peru (2012), China (Olympic Games 2008!). I also love to run, yoga, photography, read, go to museums and scuba dive.
