Professor of Public Speaking, 2003 - Present
My focus and my vocation is to help students grow and develop as people; to acquire a deeper understanding of who they are and what their life is about; to learn what it means to communicate; to learn new ways to communicate; to master skills of logic, reason, and critical thinking; to become adept at persuasion; to internalize a more expanded and inclusive view of the world; and to have fun while learning. I provide consulting for the University of Florida's Office of Executive Education in the field of Corporate Narrative, or Business Storytelling. I also do consulting in Business Communication for various north Florida businesses and organizations.
I worked for more than 20 years at Walt Disney World. I administrated regulatory, technical, and vendor training for 300+ engineering employees and managers in Disney's Animal Kingdom park and adjacent resort hotels. In Disney's Recruiting division, I managed job postings for engineering, maintenance, and horticulture positions for the Disney Parks and Resorts. At Disney University, I instructed more than 500 employees in career development and life-goal priorities, leadership processes, influencing behavior, and adaptive personality styles.
To help students and faculty overcome the debilitating effects of stress, I teach meditation workshops throughout the year; my meditation webpage can be reviewed here. To express my creative inclinations, I perform as a guitarist around town, sometimes solo and sometimes with other musicians. An example can be viewed here.
