Santa Fe College's Theater Program, boasting over 50 majors, encourages development of and participation in the theater arts. It raises awareness of how important the creative process is for students and the community. Theatre Santa Fe is the program's performing arm. Over a two-year cycle, its productions represent a wide range of genres including mixed media and acting for other media. It receives high ratings from the Florida Community College Activities Association Theatre Division and the American College Theater Festival. Theatre Santa Fe also supports many local community service organizations such as Trees of Life and St. Francis House.
The Theater Program's accredited faculty represent outstanding leadership and professionalism at college, community and state levels. It is dedicated to preparing students for transfer to state upper division colleges and universities. The program's faculty care about the future of developing student artists, giving them opportunities to explore their creative process in a nurturing learning environment.
Theater courses include Introduction to Theater, Performance, Dramatic Literature, and Technical Theater. As the world of theater changes, new courses are added to meet students' needs. Students get hands-on stage lighting, sound, set design and management training. They may learn costume and makeup techniques as well. Students earn credit for participation in pre-production meetings, rehearsals, technical rehearsals and performances- skills that translate to superior rated productions and help to prepare them for a successful future wherever their talents lead them. Learning is a lifelong process with many stages of development. Santa Fe makes theater live!
